My canvas is a field of color
continuously in play from edge to
edge rather than organized in terms
of figure/ground relationships.
I alternate between works grounded
in landscape structure and works
that explore non-objective line,
shape and color. The work reflects
the juxtaposition of complexities
with simplicities, thus harmonizing
opposites. In viewing
non-objective work, the mind needs
to identify or create relationships
with form because the stillness, or
no movement of thought, makes us
uncomfortable. One might
conceptualize non-objective work as
meditation..... a peaceful place to
rest the mind. We need not
identify with form on the two
dimensional surface of the canvas.
